Case Study, Visual Design

Mar 2024—May 2024

CowBella Farms believes that when we cultivate connections between our farms and our tables, then we taste where dairy meets delight.

By creating & establishing a strong brand identity, visuals like poster, website, and mobile app to develop a visual brand identity that includes logo, typography, color palette, and user interface elements appropriate to each touchpoint.

Overview

Project Overview

Before I jumped into the design process, I chose the brand’s main focus to be the consumers of the dairy farm, as it would be a brand catered towards an audience rather than for myself.

Cultivating connections between farms and tables, tasting where dairy meets delight.

Foodies who are outdoor enthusiasts

The personality that CowBella farms revolves around is designed to be both morally and visually more of a nurturing, friendly, community oriented, and delightful brand. This is also well-executed with mood boards that reflect the HMW questions, answering the questions of how we can cultivate all-natural experiences, connections, and delight.

To create a logo that effectively represents the CowBella Farms brand, I sketched over 100 designs that resonated with me while reviewing various mood boards. Each sketch tells the same story but with a unique visual interpretation, allowing for numerous iterations.

Here is a progression of one of the logos created based on the mood board, aiming to evoke delight. As shown, both the typography and illustrative elements were altered and refined, enabling exploration of various iterations that would appeal to curious consumers.

Throughout this process, I successfully created this logo, achieving satisfaction with its simple yet distinctive appeal to the audience. Through numerous trials, I integrated elements from various mood boards to craft a diverse logo. The design features leaves as ears and an ear tag to symbolize nature, complemented by a rounded cow illustration that harmonizes with the playful typeface.

Layouts

After completing the overall look and feel of the branding, it was time to create mockups and layouts of how the general poster, website and app design would look like from the user’s perspective.

The goal was to design a poster for the farm, with a focus on attracting an audience that wanted to be a part of the brand’s community. The design needed to evoke excitement while clearly presenting one of many CowBella Farms’ personalities.

The goal was to design a website that the customer would go to after viewing the poster and/or cultivating in their own experience of seeing how they can be a part of the CowBella Farms community.

The goal of designing the mobile app is to provide customers with convenient access to the website anytime, anywhere. By creating a clean and intuitive design, users can enjoy a seamless experience.

These two poster designs were crafted to enhance and personalize the sense of 'delight' and 'brightness' that viewers experience when looking at them.

Two prototypes were developed to gain a clearer visual understanding of the color treatment and the incorporation of shapes.

Organic and illustrative styles were explored to make the design and interactive elements feel more dynamic and unique, avoiding a static or generic appearance.

These prototypes focused on integrating visual and brand elements into a cohesive, seamless informational experience. The goal was to create a design that not only looked consistent with the brand but also delivered an intuitive and fluid user journey.

Final Products

Now it’s time for everything to come together and bring some delight to this project (not that there wasn’t already).

Here's a lively poster that captures the cheerful essence of the brand with its vibrant colors. It features dairy as both a beverage and a treat, inviting viewers to explore CowBella Farms and discover the delightful flavors awaiting them.

After viewing the poster, they can visit the website for more information.

The website features vibrant colors and smooth design elements that guide users through different sections.

The landing page introduces the brand with a friendly description, accompanied by a joyful image of a child drinking milk. It then offers opportunities for consumers to engage in purchasing, participating in the dairy process, and discovering new dairy recipes.

To demonstrate authenticity and dedication to consumers, the website includes shared experiences and reviews, encouraging deeper connections with the brand.

The mobile app is accessible anywhere, whether users are planning grocery lists or traveling. It mirrors the website in function and design to maintain consistency across platforms. Each section offers a detailed, personalized view, enabling users to engage with various features directly.

I'm thrilled with how everything turned out in the final pieces, offering consumers a delightful experience with CowBella Farms. This project has not only expanded my knowledge but also enriched my design process, from developing the logo to crafting various media. Building this brand from the ground up allowed me the freedom to explore and refine my ideas.

While there were challenges along the way, each trial and error helped me identify areas for improvement, fostering my growth and learning. Creating and developing CowBella Farms into a positive and engaging brand for current and future consumers has been a truly enjoyable experience, and I hope they feel the same way!
